In early December 2021, The Royal Ontario Museum opened their fabulously fossil-rich "Dawn of Life" permanent exhibit, which showcases the earliest stages of the evolution of complex life on Earth.
Loom Animation was heavily involved in this project. We created a massive (over 12 meters long!) seamlessly-animated panoramic loop of the Cambrian Period sea floor based on the fossils from the Burgess Shale (approximately 520 million years ago), displayed on 36 high-definition OLED screens, featuring realistic and scientifically accurate depictions of 50 different species.
We also provided 25 posed 3D virtual models of a selection of Cambrian creatures which were then 3D printed by Objex Unlimited, and which are used throughout the exhibit.
